Engineering

Our ideal engineering candidate is flexible and willing to learn new things. We try not to be language, or framework zealots. We're looking for people with sound judgement first, and experience with $TRENDY_THING second. If you think you can navigate some of the following situations gracefully, then you might be a good fit.

  • Communicating with colleagues, and customers.
  • The balance between re-inventing every wheel, and import github/*.
  • Finding the right abstractions.
  • Making tradeoffs between speed and other things like security, consistency, and availability.
  • Choosing appropriate tools, frameworks, languages, and dependencies
  • Understanding how to apply core computer science concepts, like the CAP theorem to real world problems.
  • Choosing the right data structures and algorithms to meet requirements.

We're still small and wear many hats, but here is an overview of the things we need to work on right now.

Backend Stack

Our backend is written mainly in Rust, although we use Python sometimes. We are also looking for experience with all of the major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). We generally use open source software and toolchains.

Frontend Stack

We try to keep our frontend as simple as possible, but will likely be diving into some interesting WebAssembly based things soon. Currently the frontend is based on Pure.css because of it's small size and flexibility.

DevOps & Infrastructure Automation

We have some ambitious plans about how far and wide we want to deploy our services. We will need to invest heavily so that we can safely deploy to our worldwide infrastructure platform. This includes operating on multiple cloud providers (so we won't be using CloudFormation 😛).

Community

A platform is only as powerful as the community it empowers. We're looking for people to help grow and nurture a community of coders building on Sound Infrastructure. If you're creative and enthusiastic about helping coders then this role is for you.

Note that this role does not mean you have to be the "face" of Sound Infrastructure. If you want to stay (mostly) anonymous by sticking to our company social media accounts then that is totally fine.
